Test Methods
Lap Shear Testing
The Lap Shear test measures the ability of the material to withstand stresses where the shear force is moving the two substrates in opposite directions.
This test mimics one of the most common stresses that a bonded joint can face during service. Coatings are exposed to liquids, gases, temperatures, and pressure. The liquids consist of polar and nonpolar mediums and the gases include corrosive and flammable mediums.
These lab conditions are chosen to simulate the max limits of service to assist in speeding up any degradation of the coating. Coatings that demonstrate the least reaction are the most suitable for use in the tested environment.
